Offset, Cardi B’s Rapper Husband, Arrested and Released on Instagram Live

Police says American rapper and philanthropist, Offset, was arrested by the Beverly Hills police on Saturday night as he drove through a rally organized in support of President Donald Trump.

Offset, who drove in a car alongside Marcelo Almanzar, 20, believed to be a cousin to his wife Cardi B, 28, was later released that night, while Marcelo was slammed with two-count charges of possessing a concealed firearm and publicly being in possession of a loaded firearm. He is however set for bail amounting to $35,000.

The BHPD in an attempt to set the records straight issued a statement read that: “There have been media reports that entertainer Offset was arrested, those reports are inaccurate.”

They explained that a passerby alleged that Marcelo pointed a gun at him from a car, though he did not press any charges.

During the arrest, Offset was recording the confrontation with the police on his Instagram Live. The clip has since been circulated widely on the internet and it shows the rapper engaged in a heated argument with the police, with his refusal to exit the car and the police subsequently pulling him out of the car.

The clip which was rather dramatic showed offset explaining to the police that the crowd was excitedly following him because they were his fans. There are also several clips by eyewitnesses on social media showing the police letting Offset go.

The police stated that at about 5:02 pm on Saturday, they got a complaint from a passerby who alleged that a man had pointed a gun at him from a moving car at the North Beverly Drive area. This prompted him to record the car’s license plate number which he supplied to the police department. The car was pulled up a short distance away by the police patrol unit and following an on-scene inquiry, the car occupant was arrested.

After his release, Offset expressed his appreciation to his fans, thanking them for their support and good wishes. He enjoined them to remain peaceful and safe “through these trying times.” He encouraged “everyone to get out and vote because nothing changes if nothing changes.”

Though there were no indications that Cardi B was in the car with her husband as at the time of the arrest, she had however made a recording in the early hours of Saturday, showing that she was passing through a rally in favor of President Trump. She added on her Instagram story that she was scared and feared being attacked.

Offset, who was born Kiari Kendrell Cephus, is an artist, philanthropist, and husband of Cardi B. The duo had filed for divorce earlier in September but reported just a week ago that they were back together again as a couple.
