Russian Tycoon, Vladimir Marugov the Sausage King, Murdered in his Sauna

Russian sausage tycoon, Vladimir Marugov, also known as Sausage King, was killed with a crossbow in a sauna in his palatial estate close to Moscow. Marugov, 54, was murdered in the sauna when two armed assailants in masks forcefully entered the room, tied both of them up, and demanded money from the tycoon. His partner, Sabina Gaziyeva, was in the sauna with him with the assailants barged in.

Gaziyeva was able to escape through the window and alerted the police. The police arrive shortly to find that Marugov had been murdered and the murderers had fled.  The armed men had left the scene in one of Marugov’s cars which the police later recovered in a village close to the estate. The police recovered the murder weapon, masks, and many bolts from the vehicle. Marugov, a mogul, owned some of the biggest meat processing plants in Russia.

Marugov’s name was splattered in newspapers in 2018 when he fought with his ex-wife, Tatyana Marugova in public. The fight with the renowned poet had been over divorce settlements. Marugov’s son Alexander was killed in 2019 in a motorcycle accident.

Local police officers arrested one of the two armed men. A representative of Russian authorities explained that the arrested suspect had purchased the crossbow in a Moscow shop and was one of the two men who attacked the tycoon. The suspect is not cooperating with investigations and has not been identified, according to the officials.

On Tuesday, investigators revealed that they searched the suspect’s home and found an old man handcuffed to a bed. The man explained to the officers that the men were holding him against his will and they had forced him to sign over his Moscow apartment to them. The man, a pensioner described how the men held him and extorted him, suggesting that the armed men who had killed Marugov belong to a syndicate of criminals.

A man who was guarding the pensioner has also been arrested by the police but the mogul’s second attacker is still at large. Local media outlets suggest that the pensioner had been drugged with a psychotropic substance. He was later revealed to be Alexei Zavgorodniy, an attorney who was known for representing an infamous hitman, Alexander Solonik in the 1990s.

Alexander Solonik who was known as Sasha the Macedonian could shoot pistols with both hands. He was responsible for dozens of assassinations and he escaped from jail thrice before Alexander Pustovalov, another hitman killed him.

Business owners were widely attacked in the country during the 90s according to authorities who have compared these attacks to the murder of the sausage king.
