GMC Reveals the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Truck with 1,000 Horsepower; to Debut for $112,595

GMC has released details about its 2022 Hummer EV, a huge electric truck that runs on 1,000 horsepower. Priced at $112,595, the truck is GMC’s first electric vehicle after the production of the Chevrolet Bolt EV. It is one of many electric vehicles promised by General Motors and looks like a cross between a Porsche 914 and a Toyota FJ Cruiser. Before the release of the truck on Tuesday, October 20, the company carried out a long and widely publicized campaign that included a Super Bowl advert.

Americans might not have responded as expected to the Chevrolet Bolt EV, but the newly released super-truck which is expected to go from 0-60 miles per hour in less than five seconds may win a larger crowd. The electric truck comes with considerably big measurements at 216.8 inches in length, 86.7 inches in width without mirrors or 93.7 inches in total width ( mirrors added), and 81.1 inches in height. The length puts it at a little disadvantage when compared to the Escalade.

The 2022 GMC Hummer EV is the first vehicle that will be powered by General Motors’ Ultium batteries and drive family. The truck comes with 24 battery modules, but the company is yet to release a specific figure for the truck’s usable Kilowatt-hour until it receives the go-ahead from the Environmental Protection Agency. In March, when GM released the batteries, it announced that the 24 module pack will use about 200kWh. By GMC calculations, the electric truck should be able to travel for 350 miles (564km) on a full charge. The truck’s 800V architecture gives room for a fast-charge, adding about 100 miles journey in just 10 minutes.

The truck packs three permanent magnet electric motors, one of which powers the front axle. The other two motors which drive separate wheels are located at the back of the truck. GMC also revealed a torque of 11,500 pounds-feet at the wheels, more appropriate than the torque at the motors which Jason Fenske, a member of the Engineering Explained team estimated to be about 1,000 pound-feet.

With a locking differential at the front motor, the Hummer EV has been designed to survive in rough terrains. The dual motors at the rear control the wheels in rough terrains, making a rear locking differential unnecessary. The truck also comes with the standard 35-inch tires and 37-inch tires which can also be used. The Hummer EV truck also has different camera sensors.

Production of the truck’s first model is expected to begin towards the end of 2021 and deliveries will commence early 2022. Other models will be released between late 2022 and 2024. The Hummer EV3X is expected to become available towards the end of 2022. It will be sold for $99,995 and will lose some of the features of the Hummer EV. Hummer EV2X, which will come with one rear motor, will be sold for $89,995. A cheaper model, the Hummer EV2 will be sold for $79,995 in 2024.
